Concentration

So for my concentration i was thinking about something along the lines of each piece representing the emotion or style of a different style of dance - ballet, tap, jazz, Broadway etc. - but not necessarily drawing the dance or the dancers just trying to evoke the emotion of it. So i began to write lists of words for each style to describe them and i realized that all the lists had one thing in common, they that seemed to contradicted themselves - although if a dance looked at it they would make perfect sense - but such things as ballet being both dainty and powerful didn't make sense to some people i showed my list to. This made me think that maybe i could take it to the next step, because emotion is hard to portray simply, but i could focus on the dynamics of the movement and how all the styles have some kind of push and pull, a perfect balance of structure and freedom. :) thats all i have for now. Although i have no actual art ideas, im sure something will come to me.

Also this weekend was the jazz tap review and Nutcracker at my studio, super fun :)

!!!

Encaustic is so much fun! I really enjoy working with the wax because it is unpredictable but at the same time it feels like water color where is you don't like something you can just cover it or wash it away. I really like working on small things or doing precise organizing and to me working with thre wax has the same type of feeling. On Friday i was in the wax nook with Karen and i nfound out two thing. 1: a couple years ago the art students got to see some sort of encaustic gallery or workspace or something - which is pretty cool - and we used to use a rougher method of painting involving power. 2: everyone approaches the wax differently, wear i was focused on the image, it seemed like Karen was more interested in the shapes and colors. this i ound pretty cool that wax can be taken in all different ways so everyone piece is completely unique to them. I backed up my thought by finding some different artists work, they really are all different in what they do with the encaustic work. Here!

Also, this weekend i performed at festival of the trees and hung up my christmas light :) the weekend of the 12 and 13 i have more performances. I love the holidays :)
Oo i know I am going to take this chance to advertise. I am selling raffle tickets for my dance studio. They are five dollars each and you can pick which basket you want to enter in for. Date Night, Pamper Me, Wine cheese and chocolate, The man box (includes blazer tickets), the dog basket, and teen basket. the baskets can be taken apart and make great gifts or you can just keep everything. just thing about it you could potentially do all of your christmas shopping with five dollars. They are also a great value and include items way above the five dollar price tag. If you are interested or want more deatails just ask me :) i only have twenty tickets left!!!!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.... on friday I went to see company perform at millennium plaza which was all Christmasy and cute, but then on saturday I saw Portland's Singing Christmas Tree at the Keller for the first time in my life. It was mostly singing and there was just a tad of dancing but it was still amazing and very pretty. I am so fricken excited to put out our christmas tree - although that won't be for a couple weeks - and put up the lights outside of my house next week :) :) :) :). I absolutely love this season. Lights, trees, hot chocolate, love, happiness, did mention lights and trees, cold, snow, everything about it is so much fun. :)

But... I have to draw myself away from the magic of christmas for just one moment and write my artist statement for the scholastic portfolio thingy. Art and applications is kinda stressing me out but at the same time I have a very good feeling that it will all work out so I'm not going crazy...yet :)

The Whistling Season

So... i've been thinking a lot about my peice im going to do for the LO reads thing. I didn't like the book at all so i half read half skimmed it, meaning that i read everything but i read it fast and slowed down at the parts i liked or the important info. The part i liked most is when Paul took Rose out front and looked at the comet and the stars. I have some kind of image in my head of what i want to do and i really want to do encaustic because that will look best. I am so excited to learn how to do that :). Oh and funny enough there's a metor shower tonight , supposedly like 30 per hour from like 11-2, it a big one!
This is not what im doing, its just a pretty picture.

Eugene

Eugene

This weekend my two friends, Ashley and Lauren, and I went to Eugene. We stayed at my sisters apartment but mostly hung out with Ashley's friend Brandon at his Frat. It was really fun, we snuck into the dance building to have a look, walked in the rain, almost went to a ballroom dance event, people watched drunk people, and much more.

Nothing really art related happened except that in the morning there was a green rally type thing/protest, who had a bunch or artsy posters and big sculptures and such like this globe. I had a great weekend.
Oh and i found a bunch of pics that i like to put in my sketchbook as inspiration.

To relate this more to art.

All is well in Cecilia's world. Halloween was uber fun, i have road trip to Eugene coming up with my sis and my girlies, dance went really well today, i am so far very pleased with my current painting, and apart from my college essay the future looks bright. :)

To relate this more to art. The Leonardo da Vinci painting reminded me of the Raphael's The Woman with the Veil that is being shown in Portland. I haven't seen it but a friend of mine told me it was really amazing. Renaissance painters have the coolest names, oh hey my sisters middle name is Linnea Raphaela... weird. Its also strange to me how lots of their painting are so middle of the page (which i have never had a problem with), but i guess their use of triangles and AHmazing skills make up for that.

PSYCH

The Pumpkins are no more. i realized that even though i liked the picture i really didn't want to spend time on like ten pumpkins. So i have changed it to a different picture. i really like the lights and i know i want them in focus, but i have not decided if that's all, or if i want the forground in focus too, or just everything regular. We'll see how it goes.

The Jabberwocky

Lewis Carrol

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! and through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Lyrics

LYRICS

It took me a while to choose this song, but after skimming through my i Tunes it was obvious. Although the lyrics are good they are mot much without the music and singing. I love this song and everything about, it also holds many memories in it for me.

Honey and the Moon
Joseph Arthur

Don't know why I'm still afraid
If you weren't real I would make you up
now
I wish that I could follow through
I know that your love is true
and deep
as the sea
but right now
everything you want is wrong,
and right now
all your dreams are waking up,
and right now
I wish I could follow you
to the shores
of freedom,
where no one lives.

Remember when we first met
and everything was still a bet
in love's game
you would call; I'd call you back
and then I'd leave
a message
on your answering
machine

But right now
everything is turning blue,
and right now
the sun is trying to kill the moon,
and right now
I wish I could follow you
to the shores
of freedom,
where no one lives

Freedom
run away tonight
freedom, freedom
run away
run away tonight

We're made out of blood and rust
looking for someone to trust
without
a fight
I think that you came too soon
you're the honey and the moon
that lights
up my night

But right now
everything you want is wrong,
and right now
all your dreams are waking up,
and right now
I wish that I could follow you
to the shores
of freedom
where no one lives

freedom
run away tonight
freedom freedom
run away
run away tonight

we got too much time to kill
like pigeons on my windowsill
we hang around

ever since I've been with you
you hold me up
all the time I'm falling down

But right now
everything is turning blue,
and right now
the sun is trying to kill the moon,
and right now
i wish i could follow you
to the shores
of freedom
where no one lives

freedom
run away tonight
freedom freedom
run away
run away tonight

To me the song is all about wanting something that you can not have because it just isn't the right time. The song to me can be steered away from just being related to a relationship which is partially why i love it. The tune is very hopeful but the lyrics are sad, this is my favorite combination and most of my favorite songs are like this. The song is all about patience and acceptance.
Here is the actual music

A-Z Call Me Boring

So i was having a really hard time trying to think of what to do for my A-Z piece, mostly because i was looking around and seeing all this edgy cool stuff people were coming up with. Finally after an almost wasted class period i decided to just pick my favorite picture, a huddle of pumpkins, and paint it because even though it's more traditional, and some may say boring, that is what i enjoy doing. However, i am still pushing myself by making it larger than what i am used to and comfortable working with. :)
Plump

This is basically what it will look like, but i am pushing the color and dynamics of the color more to make it interesting.
